HVEA to provide engineering services to HDR and Tappan Zee Constructors on New Tappan Zee Crossing Project

February 22, 2013

Beacon, New York - HVEA has been engaged by HDR to assist in the design of the new Tappan Zee Crossing.

The design-build contract for the Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing was approved recently by the New York State Thruway Authority Board of Directors. HDR is the lead designer for Tappan Zee Constructors, a consortium that includes Fluor Enterprises, American Bridge Company, Granite Construction Northeast, and Traylor Bros.

HVEA will perform design services, including structures on both approaches, and will participate in the independent design check process on elements designed by other firms.

The five year project will construct twin cable stayed main spans with eight traffic lanes, extra-wide shoulders, and a dedicated multi-use path for pedestrians and bicycles. The bridge is designed for a 100-year service life and will be mass-transit-ready for bus rapid transit on the span, or for commuter or light rail on structures between the two spans.

HVEA is a regional firm providing engineering, consulting, construction inspection and material testing and related services. Learn more at
