HVEA Engineers did it again!  Our team participated in the August 24, 2019, Spartan Race, Inc. at West Point.  A total of 4 miles and 20 obstacles couldn’t stop this group!  Go Team!

HVEA’s Mia Nadasky and Jessica Mariani were both selected to serve on several ACEC NY State Committees for the August 1, 2019 – July 21, 2020 term.

Mia was selected as a member for both the Legislative Committee and the NYS County Highway Superintendents Committee and Jessica as a member of the Design-Build Committee.  Congratulations!

HVEA was selected to provide construction inspection services for this major transportation corridor in Putnam County, NY. Currently this intersection experiences high levels of traffic accidents and is a critical crossing for residents, emergency services and the school district. This $22M reconstruction project will improve safety through the construction of a full diamond interchange and a new two span, steel multi-girder bridge to carry Pudding Street over the Parkway.

HVEA was selected by the Ulster County DPW for the $4.5M full superstructure replacement of the Brunswick Bridge carrying the Hoagerburgh Road over the Shawangunk Kill River. This Bridge NY funded project includes the superstructure removal and replacement, modifications/repairs to the abutments, pedestals and pier, new bearings and widening the roadway for shared-use.

HVEA is now a NYCDOB registered Special Inspection Agency.  Our SIA number is: 007138

Our existing suite of accreditations include AASHTO resource and NVLAP Lab Code: 201050-0; licensed by NYCDOB (concrete test lab) and approved by NYCDDC (asphalt, soil and concrete mix designs, Lab, Field and Plant); and inspected by the AMRL and CCRL.

The American Council of Engineering Companies of New York has selected our Creek Road Intersection Reconstruction / Modern Roundabout project for the 2019 Platinum Award in Category H:  Transportation. HVEA performed the design and construction inspection services to create a roundabout for this critical “three-legged” intersection. With some 9,000 students and staff commuting to Dutchess Community College, the AADT’s grew to 15,000 on Creek Road, 7,500 on Smith Street and 17,500 on the Salt Point Turnpike. HVEA’s roundabout design successfully replaced three left hand turns with three right hand turns, replaced four stop signs with three yield signs, and perfected vehicle speeds for this very busy, unconventional junction of three streets in the City of Poughkeepsie.

The Engineering Excellence Awards are presented to projects that encompass both the public and private sector in the following categories: studies, research, and consulting services; building/technology systems; structural systems; surveying and mapping technology; environmental; waste and storm water; water resources; transportation; energy; industrial and manufacturing processes and facilities; and special projects.

Winners will be honored at the Annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) Gala, which will take place at the Hilton Midtown in New York City on April 13, 2019. This event is co-sponsored by the ACEC New York Scholarship Fund, and in conjunction with the Gala, the scholarship program will award more than $50,000 to NYS engineering students.

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Jessica Mariani, P.E. to Associate Principal. Jessica began her career with HVEA as Manhattan College graduate in 2006, working as a designer in our Beacon office. In 2012, she earned her professional engineer (PE) license and began to pivot her career to field services. In 2013, Jessica led the firm’s entry into material testing, putting together our first lab. Today, HVEA is a leader in material testing in the NY Metro area and highly respected by the dozens of clients we serve. These relationships have also led to significant opportunities in construction inspection. Jessica’s efforts to support our CI staff has helped to make HVEA a leader in construction inspection.

Four HVEA employees have successfully completed the FHWA/NHI Course #130055, Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges held in June 2018. This 10-day course provided training on the safety inspection of in-service highway bridges and fulfills the training requirement of the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS).

Five HVEA employees successfully completed the New York Wetland Law & Compliance Course held in February 2018 furthering HVEA’s knowledge and understanding of wetland law.

The NYSDOT selected HVEA for this 5-year term agreement to provide consultant design services for projects encompassing some of the following tasks:  bridge/culvert replacements & rehabilitations, highway rehabilitation, public involvement, environmental assessments & studies, traffic engineering and construction support services.
