Goethals Bridge Quality Assurance

Elizabeth, NJ to Staten Island, NY

This design-build project is a Public-Private partnership (P3) between PANYNJ and NYNJ Link Partnership – a joint venture of Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, Inc. and Kiewit Development, with Parsons Transportation Group of New York as lead designer. The new 900 foot-long span will be located south of the existing structure, over the Arthur Kill, a channel separating New Jersey and Staten Island. Construction began in 2013 and will be finished in late 2018. The new span will have six 12 foot-wide lanes and 12 foot-wide shoulders, and include a central strip wide enough to accommodate mass-transit service. A 10 foot-wide sidewalk and bike path will run along the northern edge of the New Jersey bound roadway.

HVEA is responsible for on-site testing of concrete, nuclear density testing of compacted fills, steel inspection (CWI and Bolting), and a variety of laboratory services and plant inspections. HVEA will also perform cross-hole sonic logging (CSL) of the drilled shaft foundations.
