Lake Drive Bridge Replacement over Quassaick Creek

Newburgh, NY

HVEA provided design services and is currently performing construction inspection services for the replacement of the existing twin metal arch culvert bridge over the Quassaick Creek with a single span bridge. This structurally deficient structure, originally built in the 1970’s, exhibited an inefficient hydraulic opening which contributed to the flooding issues experienced in this area. In addition, scour protection is also key as the creek flow can often increase rapidly during storm events.

HVEA designed a 40’ 3-sided precast bridge structure to replace the 2 failing pipes. A larger hydraulic opening was designed to eliminate the flooding issues often experienced at this location.

The Lake Drive Bridge leads to the main entrance of the Lake Street Apartments. A key component of the design was to maintain permanent pedestrian accommodations and sidewalks to the Lake Street Apartments. All sidewalks were designed to be ADA/PROWAG compliant.

This project is funded with federal funds and is being progressed under the oversight review of the NYSDOT Region 8 Local Projects Group.

This project includes:

  • Replacement of the existing twin metal arch culvert bridge
  • Hydraulic analysis utilizing HEC-RAS
  • Scour protection
  • Roadway drainage
  • Erosion control plan
  • Pedestrian accommodations & sidewalk design
  • Right-of-way acquisition
