Route 211 Pedestrian & Landscape Enhancements
HVEA provided design and construction inspection services for this project to construct 2,700′ of ADA/PROWAG compliant sidewalks along New York State Route 211 in the Town of Wallkill from Lloyd’s Lane to Dunning Road. Flanked by numerous retail stores, this 6-lane, busy roadway needed pedestrian connectivity on both sides of Route 211. This much sought after sidewalk improvement project increased safety for pedestrians as well as provided visual improvements such as landscaping and antique LED street lamps.
Also included a creative retaining wall design that provided needed space for the sidewalk as well as an aesthetically pleasing wall design, which was barely visible from the road.
This project required a NYS Highway work permit and completes a vital link connecting the City of Middletown to shopping plazas on Route 211. This project was funded with federal funds through the Transportation Enhancement Program and was progressed through the oversight review of the NYSDOT Local Projects Group.
This project included:
- 2,700 feet of new sidewalk
- ADA compliant sidewalks and ramps
- Property acquisitions
- Signing and pavement markings
- Retaining walls/culvert extension
- Pedestrian signals
- Landscaping and lighting
